Communications strategy, concept design and FILM production
Fish Ladder in collaboration with the European Space Agency created an award-winning film and campaign for one of the most important events in space exploration in recent years.
The Rosetta mission - rendezvous with, orbit, and land on a comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko - was an unprecedented mission of cometary exploration.
In close collaboration with the European Space Agency, its Senior Science Advisor, Prof. Mark McCaughrean, and its Communications Team, we developed and designed a strategy that would suit the overall campaign carried out by ESA, even if the landing turned out unsuccessful.
This was both an exciting and demanding task, but the whole team felt from the very start they where contributing to something much larger and profound than just an 'ordinary' science communications film.
This blend of excitement and tension was felt in the short directed by Tomek Baginski, Ambition, where two actors – Aidan Gillen known from Game of Thrones, and rising Irish star, Aisling Franciosi – conveyed the message of ESA in an unprecedented manner.
The central question of the film – “What is the key to life on Earth?” – was later repeated by an astronaut on the International Space Station, Alexander Gerst, and endorsed by one of the world’s best known living astrophycisists, Stephen Hawking.
The campaign was widely discussed in international media, receiving also a number of highly acclaimed and prestigious international awards.
